On March 26th, 2011 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., “One hour for the Earth 2011”, inaugurated in 2007, in Sydney, Australia will take place. “One hour for the Earth 2011” was created to sensitize the world population to the importance of conserving energy by instituting a simple gesture such as switching off lights for a one hour period.
In 2010, over 4,000 cities, spread out within 88 countries, all shut off their lights for a one hour period in view of fighting global warming.
The City of Côte Saint-Luc will participate in the 2011 event and invites all the commerces and residents of the City of Côte Saint-Luc to actively participate in this event as well.
The Council also encourages all other municipalities and/or boroughs within the Agglomeration of Montreal to join the City of Côte Saint-Luc to confirm their respective participation in the event.

Orthodox Jews already have a “One Day for the Earth” every single week – Shabbat – as well as the major holidays!!! (Notwithstanding some lights that might be on the whole time.)
Besides, global warming is not the #1 environmental problem in the world in my opinion – climate change, for the most part, is caused by natural agents such as sunspots, variations in ocean flow patterns, volcanoes, and changes in the tilt of the earth’s rotation. And throughout earth’s history, the climate has changed WAY more, and just as fast if not faster, than what is alleged to happen today. All of this before humans came to the scene. Just look up http://www.nipccreport.org for more. Even if you saved energy, you would not profoundly change the climate for the better. I think that environmental issues that should figure much more prominently in the world’s consciousness should be stuff like species diversity extinction along with pollution.
