Edgewood Florist and the Van Egmond family have been part of the Cote Saint-Luc landscape for more years than most residents of this city. They have played a special role in the lives of thousands of our residents over the decades making milestone events all the more special with their beautiful floral arrangements. The humid feeling and fragrant aroma in the nursery immediately reminds me of my childhood days when my mother would bring me there on her errands.
The nurseries and buildings have been pretty much unchanged over the years and as old homes nearby were refurbished Edgewood started looking like an odd curiosity on an otherwise unassuming and quiet residential side street. A few homes in the area still have that 50s era farmstead look with the rocking chair on the front porch however they are fewer with each passing year.

The old farmstead feel in the heart of Cote Saint-Luc, across from Edgewood Florist on Wolseley Avenue
Most Cote Saint-Lucers who frequented the nursery will miss the convenient proximity. Happily, Edgewood is not moving too far.

Peter Von Egmond bought the house I was raised in (5651 Wolseley Avenue) from my parents in 1961. When I was a kid I would go with them on deliveries to the harbour for flowers to go to the Empress ships. At that time there was also a greenhouse on Westminster Avenue near the railway tracks run by the Allen Family,. All the best in your new home.

Sorry it was Dirk Von Egmond and Hank who bought the greenhouse in 1956 from a family called the Sarazin’s. and it was probably built just after W.W. II. My mother who lives in Pointe Claire would remember. My older brother Brian drove the truck in the photographs.

First-rate articles are few in number these days, therefore when I bump into one such as this, I aim to add a comment and
let the writer know. This is good stuff and you ought to feel very pleased.
Wish I had articles like this on my blog. Well done.

Yes Britney I lived next door at 5651 Wolseley when it was numbered 865 and the phone number was Elmwood 0870, then Hunter 0870, then HU4-0879. The milk man had a horse drawn wagon and the garbage man also had a wagon. That was more than 50 years ago and Hank and Dirk ran the business then. In fact Dirk bought my family home from my parents in 1961 and then expanded it onto the side lawn.
