Mon, Jan 14: Imagine dealing with bugs that bite you in your sleep for years, and no matter how hard you try you can’t get rid of them. That’s the reality for residents of Caldwell terrace in Cote St. Luc. Global’s Elysia Bryan Baynes reports.
Read it on Global News: Bed bug infestation in Cote St. Luc apartment – Evening News – Videos | Global Montreal
My additional notes:
The City has been involved in this matter since being called by a resident last year however its powers are somewhat limited. It has compelled the building owner to bring in exterminators which has been done, and by all accounts has improved the situation but has not eradicated it completely.
The main body mandated to deal with health issues is the CLSC and Montreal Public Health. The Regie du Logements is mandated to resolve tenant-building matters.
Although limited in its powers, the city will continue to offer assistance to the building for the benefit of its residents.

The building where I live, the management has forced us to buy new living room furniture, even though the rugs have been infested with bugs for years, they to had to be replaced at our cost, the blame has been has been put on us. We had to go out and borrow money for this and the executive director and the “Jewish” community has done nothing to help us. We live on welfare or a small gov. pension, why should we be responsible for this debt. We would like to know where “Federation” ,Cumming Center, and Omet have been, I thought their mandate is to help those in need. We have the same medical needs as before,[perscriptions], and now we have to repay large sums of money. The spot on Global, contained many misconceptions. There is no Association in this building, let a lone a President, and Mrs.Magonet is the “service co-ordinator, not building manager.Where is the Board President, why is he hiding? Come have a meeting with us and try to find a solution. They dumped the whole mess on us. This is far from being right…..
