The register for the Zoning change by-law for the proposed development at the site of the former Griffith McConnel Residence was held August 29.

83 signatures were required to provoke a referendum from 725 qualified voters.

Just 21 signatures were obtained.

The by-law is therefore deemed approved by the Qualified Voters and the developer now has the right to proceed with the project.

I am pleased to note that the developer, Mr. Ron Basal, was present at all recent public information and council meetings to hear any concerns from the neighbours.  He took note and made several changes to his plans to ensure the maximum number of residents would agree with his plan.

I personally knocked on the doors of all residents backing and fronting onto this property and I too took note of all concerns and urged Mr. Basal to make modifications.

In the end, I believe that the neighbourhood, and indeed the city, will benefit from the new project and the influx of new residents. We have already heard from several residents who are encouraging their children to make their homes in this development rather than moving away to the west Island.
