The rest of the story: The fact is that resident Gerry Weinstein along with Mike Cohen and I started a CSL neighbourhood watch back in 1995. We were supported by the Knights of Pythias, the Jewish Adult Programming Society and private donations. While the initiative and manpower was available the public will was not. A public launch garnered publicity but we lacked residents interested enough to get involved.
Fast forward to 2005 when I ran in the first post-merger election and proposed the creation of CSL Citizens on Patrol, a veritable neighbourhood watch on wheels. The program, now into its seventh year, has 80 active volunteers, four vehicles, four sets of two wheelers and much enthusiasm and great success.
If any residents would like to get involved, the next training session begins in a few weeks. Get details here.
