Congratulations to actor, producer and councillor Mitchell Brownstein and artistic director Anisa Cameron for bringing home a Montreal English Theatre Award for this year’s outstanding CSL Dramatic Society musical production, Hairspray.

This may be the first award for the CSLDS but I can assure anyone who hasn’t been lucky enough to see one of their productions over the last four years that each of them have been winners!

Hats off as well to the cast, dancers and production team of Hairspray. This was such an energy-packed, toe-tapping experience that I still hum the tune to Good Morning Cote Saint-Luc, errr Baltimore. Here’s my review and video clip from the performance in Cote Saint-Luc last May.

The star-studded cast of 32 performers, included Amber Jonas who brought an ebullient optimism that was a delight to experience in her role as Tracy Turnblad,  the talented cross-dressing Mike Melino, playing Edna Turnblad and local crooner extraordinaire Brandon Schwartz, playing Link Larkin along with incredibly gifted members of The Montreal Gospel Choir and The Jireh Choir.

Be sure to catch the upcoming Broadway is Back performance highlighting the last four year’s of CSLDS musicals.
